They call this one the UK’s favourite tomato food for a reason.
At this stage in the year, you’ll probably be looking for the best fertiliser for ripening tomatoes. I always return to Levington Tomorite, a seaweed-enriched formula that encourages lots and lots of delicious harvests. Levington says it can give you 50% more tomatoes, and bolster your plants’ defences against pests and diseases, too.
Levington Tomorite is a concentrated feed, so you’ll need to dilute it with water first. It’s as simple as filling the inner ring of the bottle cap to the top, emptying it into a watering can, repeating that twice more so you have three measures in total, and then adding nine litres of water to the watering can.
It’s labelled as a concentrated tomato food, and the signature packaging is tomato-themed, but it’s so much more than a fertiliser for your toms alone.
‘Tomorite is a brilliant fertiliser that can be used on more than just tomatoes,’ says Nick Wood, horticulturist at GardeningExpress.co.uk. ‘Plants which enjoy similar growing conditions, such as peppers, courgettes, cucumbers and chillies, will all benefit from Tomorite because it’s high in potassium.’

‘The benefit is straightforward: it supports strong flowering and fruiting, so it’s useful for any hungry crop that needs a bit more help during active growth, rather than just tomatoes alone,’ explains Julian Palphramand, head of plants at British Garden Centres.

‘Flowering plants like roses, dahlias, sweet peas and geraniums can also benefit from Tomorite,’ says Nick. ‘Its high potassium content supports flower production and helps promote strong, healthy blooms.’
