Gardening has countless benefits for our health and wellbeing, but it’s good for our wallets, too – because there are so many vegetables you can grow at home to save money.

In fact, many of the easiest vegetables to grow are the most cost-effective ones, like lettuce and kale. Or, of course, you could try out unusual varieties that have a higher price tag in the shops, like patty pan squashes. A single packet of seeds, or a plug plant, has the potential to produce handfuls of harvests – far more than you’d find in a bag at the supermarket.
